Leon FR TDI takes on the Golf GTD in Auto Express
This week Auto Express pitted its Leon FR TDI long-termer against another hot-hatch on its fleet, the Golf GTD.
“The result of this battle of our long-term hot diesels is an upset,” says the review. “The SEAT triumphs.”
“The Volkswagen Golf is too expensive to win this head-to-head,” says Auto Express. “The SEAT can do almost everything the Volkswagen can, yet costs £4,965 less. That’s a big difference – and one the GTD struggles to justify. Yes, it’s smoother, quieter and more luxurious than the Leon FR, but the Spanish car is much better value.
“The hot diesel Leon upholds the reputation SEAT has established for offering great value. Although it trails the Volkswagen in terms of interior quality and dynamic polish, the tremendous price more than makes up for this – especially when you consider that, from behind the wheel, it doesn’t feel like a poor relation.”
